You know what they say: “the more you know, the more you like.”

That’s the exact thing that happens when you start to build up your coffee palate: you start seeking out great coffee! Here are three tips that will help you get started:

  1. Start by tasting it black. This is important because it allows you to really get the full experience of what a particular type of coffee tastes like. If you don’t do this, then you might miss out on some of the subtle flavors that make each type unique.
  2. Next, let your cup cool down a little bit so you can taste the flavors more easily. Remember: temperature affects how we perceive flavor, so if your coffee is too hot then it might be difficult to get an accurate idea of what’s in there!
  3. Finally, take a look at the bag or container and see what it says you should taste. You might also want to use a flavor chart or guidebook so that you can learn about what different parts of the tongue actually perceive (and where on those areas).
  4. If all else fails, just start expanding your vocabulary so that your palate grows into it!
