How to make a great mocha? Well, that’s a good question!

For those who love chocolate and coffee, there’s nothing better than a mocha. But to make this drink from scratch at home, you’ll need to know a few things.

To start, use high-quality chocolate. Dark chocolate has a more intense flavor, but you can also use milk chocolate if you prefer something mellow. Then grind it up until it’s nice and powdery (you don’t have to grind it yourself—you can buy pre-ground chocolate if you’d like. Powder cocoa works too with your mocha!).

Next, add the espresso. Our medium roast is best for this recipe, otherwise the chocolate’s richness will be overpowering.

Finally, bring some milk to a gentle boil then let it sit off the heat until it cools down a bit before adding it into your espresso and chocolate mixture. Do this slowly so that it doesn’t curdle!

If you want to get creative with your mocha add a bit of cinnamon or some chocolate sprinkles or whipped cream too. Add some honey if you’d like!

It doesn’t really matter how much chocolate or milk you use in your mocha or the strength of your espresso. You can experiment with different ratios and techniques—the drink is forgiving, and it all comes down to personal preference.

The mocha latte is a staple of Los Angeles coffee shops. It’s the perfect drink to sip while sitting on the patio or walking down the street, and it pairs well with almost any pastry. The best part about this recipe is that it’s simple enough for anyone to make at home!
